Immersive technologies like Virtual and Mixed Reality
have opened newer avenues in training environments for the Defence Personnel. To
reinforce India’s Defence training regime, EDIIIE joined hands with the largest
public-sector R&D agency. The agency is independently responsible for
formulating and executing strategies that contribute significantly to
strengthening national security.
Moreover, it is responsible for developing technology
for divisions like Aeronautics, naval systems, combat engineering, electronics,
armaments and life sciences.
Using cutting-edge simulation technologies like
Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality Solutions, EDIIIE has designed an extensive immersive
Defence training module. These modules help soldiers' ineffective battlefield
visualization, enhancing battle readiness and improving resource efficiency.
MR and VR training modules
Through Virtual reality, the soldiers immerse
themselves in a hostage crisis situation. While immersed, they need to save the
hostages with the help of remotely joining team members and virtually designed
weapons.
On the other hand, using Mixed Reality, EDIIIE created an immersive and
meticulous search and shoot training module. The participants need to complete
the mission by killing the terrorists in a building and recapturing the
headquarters.
The virtual reality task was configured using HTC Vive whereas Mixed Reality was configured using Hololens. Elements like smoke effects,
bullet sounds, shot injuries and AI-driven enemy reactions added additional effects.

This helped in making both the VR and MR exercises a truly immersive
experience. Additionally, a performance evaluation feature for both the modules
makes the VR military training regime all the more effective for the soldiers. These
evaluation metrics include essential insights such as accuracy index and time
efficiency.
This is just the start. We are positive that such immersive training frameworks will pave the way for India to level up with countries like USA and China, when it comes to Defence training. said Mr. Yuvraj Krishan Sharma, Co-founder and CPO at EDIIIE.
This collaborative
exercise has enabled the agency to formulate a long-term module. One that can
be utilized for training in the years to come.
