Why do slips, trips and falls matter if they seem minor?

Slips, trips and falls on the same level are the single most common cause of lost-time injury across almost every industry, rarely dramatic, but relentless, and occasionally serious or fatal when a fall is onto machinery, from a height, or into a hazard. They are also the most preventable, because the causes are known and mundane: wet or contaminated floors, trailing cables, uneven or damaged surfaces, poor lighting, and cluttered walkways. The primary control is housekeeping, backed by hazard recognition and the right footwear. EDIIIE’s Slip, Trip & Fall module, aligned to ISO 45001, trains workers to actively spot these hazards in their own environment, apply housekeeping standards, choose appropriate footwear, and report and correct hazards immediately rather than stepping around them. Every attempt is scored and certified, and the module works well as a universal component of site induction for every worker.

Training the hazard nobody takes seriously, until it costs

The difficulty with slips and trips is not that the controls are complicated; it is that everybody underestimates them. A wet patch gets stepped around instead of cleaned; a cable gets left across a walkway “just for a minute.” Because the hazard is familiar, it becomes invisible. VR re-sensitises workers by putting them in a realistic environment and testing whether they actually spot and act on the hazards, clean the spill, reroute the cable, report the damaged floor, rather than walk past. It turns an abstract poster message into a scored behaviour, which is what shifts a housekeeping culture.

The universal induction module

Unlike the high-hazard modules, slip-trip-fall applies to every worker on every site, office, warehouse, plant floor and visitor alike. That makes it the natural universal layer of a VR site induction, paired with the PPE and General Safety modules. One short, scored experience every person completes builds the baseline hazard-awareness habit that the specialist modules then build on. It is low-cost, high-coverage, and directly targets the biggest source of routine injury on most sites.

Slip, Trip & Fall training, common questions

Yes. They are consistently the most frequent cause of lost-time injury in industry, and among the most preventable. Because they are so common, a small percentage improvement across a large workforce removes a large absolute number of injuries, which is why a short, universal module delivers strong return.
Everyone on site, it is the one module with no exceptions. It works best as a universal component of site induction alongside PPE and general safety, so every worker, contractor and regular visitor shares the same baseline hazard-awareness habit.
This module covers same-level slips and trips and low-level falls, the everyday hazard. The Working at Height module covers falls from elevation, harnesses and fall-arrest systems. Many sites deploy both, with slip-trip-fall as the universal layer and working-at-height for staff who work at elevation.
Wet or contaminated floors, uneven surfaces and level changes, trailing cables and hoses, poor housekeeping, inadequate lighting, unsuitable footwear, and carrying loads that block the view of the floor. The module stages each of these across a plant walkthrough and scores hazard recognition and the corrective action.
Housekeeping standards and spill response, designated walkways and cable management, anti-slip surfaces and matting at wet areas, lighting to standard, footwear policy, and reporting of hazards before someone falls. The module ends with the trainee applying that hierarchy to a real hazard they have found.
Walking-working surface rules, OSHA 1910.22 and 1910.30, require training on the hazards of the surfaces where employees work, and ISO 45001 and the Factories Act expect risk assessment and control of housekeeping hazards. The module provides the dated training record those systems ask for.
